MARCH 2019: Winner of the Mac Perry Student Paper Competition

Sophia Sciandra receives her prize check from Rebecca O'Sullivan.

Thursday, March 21, 2019 7 PM – 8 PM at Weedon Island Preserve Cultural and Natural History Center

In honor of the memory of longtime Central Gulf Coast Archaeological Society (CGCAS) member Mac Perry’s dedication to bringing archaeological knowledge to the public, this month’s archaeology lecture featured the winner of the Mac Perry Student Paper Competition. Just as Mac did with his book Indian Mounds You Can Visit, CGCAS hopes to promote the dissemination of archaeological research and findings to the general public in an engaging manner through this prize.

CGCAS would like to congratulate our 2019 Mac Perry Student Paper Prize Winner Sophia Sciandra, BA, of USF Anthropology! She gave CGCAS members and guests a fantastic talk last week all about her Honors Thesis work on faunal remains from the Gamble Plantation in Bradenton. Congratulations Sophia!

This program is sponsored by the Central Gulf Coast Archaeological Society, and the Alliance for Weedon Island Archaeological Research and Education.
